Linda Spielman LCSW
Working with teens and young adults has been a passion of mine since 2001. These years are a critical time for developing an identity. By learning coping mechanisms and life skills they are able to recognize their strengths while building resilience.
My hometown is Austin, Texas, where I completed a Masters of Science in Social Work at the University of Texas at Austin. I’ve now relocated to Asheville, NC to continue my work as a specialist in teen and young adult therapy.
I offer three forms of therapy: Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), psychodynamic therapy and canine-assisted therapy.
MEET MY THERAPY STAFF ASSISTANTS
Senior intern - Layla
Layla has extensive experience performing tricks and looking beautiful. Her special talents are identifying introverts and REALLY listening.
Junior intern – Jolene
Cuddling is Jolene’s #1 priority. She can either melt into your arms or lay in your lap… just let her know your preference. She’s also kinda goofy (but in a good way).
PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
I’m intensively trained in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (2005) and completed three years post-graduate studies in Self-Injury, Family Systems Therapy, Mindfulness and the Adult Attachment Interview.
After a guest appearance on The Today Show, I produced an instructional DVD, Teens who Self-Injure, and have since trained hundreds of school counselors, teachers and nurses on the topic.
My early social work experience includes helping the homeless, battered women, hospice patients, HIV/AIDS clients, siblings of children with cancer, mentor for YMCA, volunteer for Girls Empowerment Network and mediator at the Dispute Resolution Center.
